3D print farms: how does the FRED standard work?
Your store receives an order. Someone now needs to find an available machine, the right filament and a workshop that can ship the part. FRED coordinates that work with partner 3D print farms. They work within a shared framework: the FRED standard. Here is what it covers.

Why standardize a network of print farms?
A 3D print farm is a workshop running multiple printers. Two farms may offer different materials, colours, machines and services. Without a shared framework, adding workshops means adding conversations and procedures for a seller.
FRED brings these capabilities and order tracking into one platform. The aim is to make distributed production accessible from a store, an API or a customer workspace through a consistent workflow.
What does the FRED standard cover?
The framework covers declared capabilities, file and quote preparation, production stages, quality-control photos and shipping information. Compatibility with the requested material, colours and options helps determine which workshop can receive an order.
The FRED standard is an internal network framework, not an independent certification. It does not mean every farm has identical machines or always uses identical settings: workshops retain their manufacturing expertise.
Example: sell a desk stand without managing a farm
A brand prepares its model, material and colour, then reviews the quote. After confirmation, payment and required approvals, the order can be offered to a compatible workshop. The seller follows progress in FRED instead of rebuilding that workflow with every manufacturer.
If no compatible capacity is available, the network does not make the part instantly manufacturable. Availability remains a condition for accepting production.
How can a manufacturer join the network?
Prepare your workshop details: location, machines, materials, colours and production capacity. Introduce your business through the manufacturer application flow. FRED is in private beta; onboarding and accessible capabilities are validated progressively.
