Broken desk cable grommet: replace the right cover

A broken cable grommet may only need a new decorative cover. Identify the fixed ring and removable lid before designing a replacement, and keep electrical protection separate from cable organisation.

Identify the damaged piece

Keep an intact mounting ring and photograph both sides of the desktop. A cover cannot fix a damaged cable, socket or swollen panel.

Measure the opening

Record two hole diameters, panel thickness, lip width and underside clearance. A nominal product size may refer to the hole rather than the outside of the ring.

Allow for connectors

Measure plugs as well as cables. Consider a split cover and smooth edges; avoid pinching insulation or forcing tight cable bends. A printed guide does not establish electrical or fire certification.

Check the sample

Test unloaded fit, lid access and cable clearance without forcing the ring. State nearby heat and compare complete design and delivery costs with a standard replacement.

Prepare suitable manufacturing with FRED

Prepare a checked STL, 3MF or OBJ for the intended use. FRED, currently in private beta, lets you configure manufacturing from that file, review the quote and follow the order with a partner manufacturer. Confirm available materials and capabilities before ordering.

Measurement and mechanical modelling are separate from manufacturing a supplied file. Present your brief when requesting access to clarify feasibility. The cover is an AI-generated illustration, not evidence of a repair tested by FRED.
