Broken bicycle accessories: what can be 3D printed?
A small bicycle part can perform a critical job. Consider 3D printing only after identifying the exact function and the consequences of detachment; a cosmetic cover differs from a brake, steering or structural component.

Find the accessory reference
Record the accessory manufacturer and model, mounting location and broken fragments. Ask its after-sales service about spare kits, screws and seals. The bicycle model alone may not identify the component.
Limit the project appropriately
A cosmetic cover or stationary storage accessory may be worth assessing. It must not enter a wheel, interfere with cables or conceal visibility equipment. Use appropriate original parts and a bicycle professional for safety components.
Measure and describe exposure
Measure mating depth, clips, curvature and clearances. Record rain, sunlight, cleaning and storage conditions. Outdoor exposure and repeated vibration cannot be assessed from appearance alone.
Discuss the printed configuration
Material, layer direction and latch geometry work together. PLA has heat limitations; PETG or ASA still require a suitable design. UV resistance does not prove fatigue resistance.
Have the mounting checked
Ask a bicycle workshop to assess clearance and suitability before use. If loads and retention cannot be characterised, choose the appropriate original solution instead of relying on a convincing-looking prototype.
Prepare suitable manufacturing with FRED
Prepare a checked STL, 3MF or OBJ for the intended use. FRED, currently in private beta, lets you configure manufacturing from that file, review the quote and follow the order with a partner manufacturer. Confirm available materials and capabilities before ordering.
Measurement and mechanical modelling are separate from manufacturing a supplied file. Present your brief when requesting access to clarify feasibility. The cover is an AI-generated illustration, not evidence of a repair tested by FRED.
Planning a replacement part?
Gather your measurements and 3D file, then describe your project to check manufacturing options. FRED is in private beta by invitation.
