FREDAPI, MCP and AI: three ways to integrate 3D printing with FRED
FRED offers several entry points into 3D printing on demand: an API for applications, an MCP connector for compatible assistants and an AI Studio for preparing designs. These tools simplify different steps from an idea to order tracking; they do not replace approval before manufacturing.

An API for your website or application
An API lets your software communicate with FRED: submit a file, prepare a quote, create an order and check its status. Your interface can offer manufacturing without rebuilding a workshop management system.
Example: a desk stand configurator sends the chosen model and configuration, displays a quote and guides order approval. Access keys stay on the server. Status notifications can then update your interface.
MCP for an assistant connected to your FRED account
MCP is a protocol that gives compatible assistants access to tools and resources. With the FRED connector and an authorized account, an assistant can search documentation, read products and help prepare a quote or track orders.
Example request: “Find my active products and help me price this stand including shipping.” Orders prepared through MCP must be approved in FRED before payment and manufacturing. The customer connector does not directly control printers.
AI Studio to move from an idea to a model
AI Studio supports an image-to-3D-model creation workflow. It helps explore a product idea, but a visually convincing generation is not proof of printability or strength.
Check scale, geometry, details, usage rights and slicing results before selling. AI creation credits are separate from manufacturing and shipping costs.
Which integration should you start with?
Use the Shopify connector for a Shopify store activated during the beta, the API for a custom workflow, and MCP to work with an assistant. Start with one verified product and workflow, then automate repetitive operations according to account permissions.
